We caught up with Brendan Kiernan for a look back at a career that includes a spell at today's opponents Bromley as the 2019/20 season enters it's defining stages in both cup and league.
“It was a good time at Bromley, there's some good people there and some good friends of mine, they're really nice people. The skipper Jack Holland was there when I was and a few of the staff too.“They always get a good team together so are always going to be up there challenging and it's no surprise to see them do that again this season.
“Bromley was an important step for me growing as a footballer on the way to getting where I am today.
“It's a slower pace of life up North, but I have enjoyed it here and met some good people.
“The Town as a whole is really good and the supporters are genuinely good people that care about the players on and off the pitch, which is important to me.”
Before Bromley, Brendan had come through the ranks at another South London club, Crystal Palace, but it was at Wimbledon where our number 14 got his first taste for success.
“Palace was good, we had a good team with some good players in it, a few boys that are doing well now like Wilfred Zaha and Jonny Williams were coming through in the same age group, we had a good side and you could tell there was a lot of ability within.
“I was 18 at the time I made my debut at Wimbledon, that was my first season in men's football and we got promoted into the Football League which was amazing, being part of the club rebuilding was special.
“I think about that winning feeling when Wimbledon went up and having that medal, if we could do the same it will just be an amazing day, but there is still a really long way to go, It's now about keeping your head, remaining focused and the rest will take care of itself.”
A trip back down South to Wembley Stadium would also be a highlight for London-born Kiernan to end a memorable first season in yellow and black.
“It would be nice for all the people I know in London to get out and watch me play, family and friends enjoy coming to watch so it would be a good day out for them if we could get to Wembley.
“Every game matters at this stage, you just have to keep your focus and have tunnel vision towards the finish line.
“Our last televised league game was a good enjoyable night for me and my family, they watched it on TV back in London. I was glad to get two goals and it was nice to keep that momentum that I started the season with.
“That game sticks out, but there have been some other highlights too, like scoring against Yeovil away from home, that was a good feeling, as well as the winner against Hartlepool in the Trophy.”
Brendan will be taking on his former side Bromley live on BT Sport at The CNG Stadium on Saturday.
