Town 1-0 Barrow - A Winning Return To Harrogate

17 October 2020

Jack Muldoon's first half finish ensured it was a winning return to the EnviroVent Stadium as National League Champions Barrow were seen off by a single goal.

Muldoon provided the decisive moment in the 22nd minute, latching onto Will Smith's pass and unleashing a powerful effort past Joel Dixon.

Simon Weaver named the same starting line-up that left Valley Parade with victory on Monday night, with Jon Stead partnering Muldoon up front.

Sam Hird and Craig Rutherford took charge of the Bluebirds, with Manager David Dunn testing positve for Covid-19 in the build up to the game.

The first 20 minutes passed with little goalmouth action, though Town did have to defend a number of early Barrow corners, with Warren Burrell showcasing his aerial ability.

The tie sprung into life in the 22nd minute as Muldoon chased down Smith's long ball and beat Dixon with a powerful first time effort to put his side ahead, his fourth goal of the season.

It could have been two four minutes later as Smith got his head to George Thomson's free kick, but couldn't get enough contact to trouble the keeper.

Muldoon did manage to apply the right headed contact to Thomson's set piece not long after, though his would be second of the game was ruled out for a foul elsewhere in the box.

Barrow's best chance of the first 45 came two minutes before the break as Josh Kay cut inside and forced a save from James Belshaw, with the two sides entering half time seperated by Muldoon's goal.

Town made a promising start to the second half with some early pressure and Lloyd Kerry seeing his shot beaten away by Dixon.

The visitors sent on striker Dior Angus in search of a goal, but it was Town who created te next chance through substitute Brendan Kiernan who almost caused Jason Taylor to poke into his own net.

Our top scorer nearly claimed his second of the afternoon with a similar finish, this time getting on the end of Aaron Martin's flick on, but couldn't hit the target from a tight angle.

Te impressive Muldoon almost rounded off the action with a goal after a jinking run and left footed attempt, though in the end one was enough to secure a win on our return to the EnviroVent Stadium.
