Josh McPake pre Carlisle - the glimpses of quality win you the games

23 April 2021

Before Saturday's trip to Carlisle, we've been chatting to Josh McPake about his recent goals, his experience living in Harrogate and how he hopes to end the season on a high…

McPake on whether he's been after more goals in recent weeks…

Yeah definitely. I think the way I play and with wingers these days, they're judged on goals and assists. I've tried to bring that into my game and in recent weeks it's all come together, so if I can keep that up it'll stand me in good stead.

On what the Gaffer and the people at Rangers have been wanting from him…

They've given me small bits of advice on what I do with the ball and my end product. The final thing you do with the ball is the last thing that gets remembered.

It's just small things to pick up on and now the pitches are getting better, we can get the ball down and play a bit which I think suits me a bit more - driving at people, committing bodies - the advice has all helped.

On growing as a person while on loan…

I haven't been able to learn too much about Harrogate because of Covid but hopefully in the next few weeks as things calm down, I'll be able to get out and see the place.

I think I've learned a lot about myself though. It's been my first time away from home and it's not easy with Covid and living in a hotel, but I feel like I'm pretty proud of myself to get through it and I think I've built up a mental character.

When I first came in, I wasn't nervous but I didn't know anyone and it's a different country of course but the lads have been brilliant. I've got on well with them so I can say they've helped me a lot.

On wanting to finish the season on a high…

Even in Scotland, to play at Wembley is amazing so to get the chance to play there, never mind have the chance to win a trophy makes me pretty lucky, especially as I've only been here for a six month loan spell.

To play all the games and then have Wembley at the end of it, it's an amazing experience. Hopefully in the next few games and at Wembley, we can finish on a high.

The games are always tight in this league but the glimpses of quality win you the games. Hopefully we can keep it tight and take what we did against Bradford into Saturday.
