Weaver pre Walsall - We just have to keep going and keep battling away

1 April 2021

Watch the Gaffer's pre-match press conference ahead of our Good Friday visit to Walsall…

The Gaffer on Simon Power's injury…

It's a big blow for him and us. He's been excellent since he arrived back in January and been a great signing for us as a pacey outlet and threat.

He's an honest lad as well so he's been a great fit for us.
We'll get him right though. It's a hamstring tear and that can happen when they're that fast. You won't be surprised to hear I never had one.

He might suffer from those occasionally but one thing is for sure, we'll get him 100% fit before he plays again.

On Josh McPake's ankle injury…

He's joining training today. He's had three days of stretching his ankle and he'll need to further strengthen it because once you have those injuries, the ankle can become weaker if you don't have that continual grind of doing a professional job.

He'll be fine for the weekend.

On team selection…

From what I see in training, everyone has been competitive and no one has signed here to just make up numbers, they all want to play. It's been good in training, we'll have another look today and then we'll pick the team. There's every chance anyone out there can play or be involved in the next two games.

On playing two games in four days…

If you do well in the first game the short turn around could definitely be a benefit. Momentum can be built from that and from our perspective, we'll go all out to have a successful game tomorrow at Walsall and then on Monday.

We've been disappointed with the way the results have gone in the last few. But we know at this level games can be decided by such fine lines.

We had a spell of winning games and there were very little in them but we were a goal to the good. Now it's gone against us but we just have to keep going, keep battling away and finish the season well.

On facing Walsall…

They'll be scrapping and there are no easy games, last week proved that. There's talent in every team and it can turn into a war of attrition and we've certainly found that it doesn't always portray the talent in the two sets of 11.

It can be a case of who battles best for the longest and doesn't slip up. We've got to make sure that tomorrow we have as much desire as Walsall and hopefully come out on top.
