Get Involved With our Girls PDC & Wildcats

10 June 2021

Below our U16s side, local girls age 7-16 can take part in our Player Development Centre, Women & Girls Development Officer Becky Wilson tells us more…

After such a strange couple of years of stop, start football, it is pleasing to see the growth of girls PDC. Our girls PDC is for girls aged 7 - 16 years old and is the first stage of the fotballing pathway for girls at Harrogate Town.
The pathway from our PDC includes progression into our development squad, Youth Education programme and ladies first team.

The programme is not intended to infringe on players representing their local grassroots clubs, but does provide the opportunity for talented players to access extra contact time with professional coaches.
The coaching programme works on all aspects of the game including the following: confidence building, ball control, dribbling, turning, passing techniques, movement off the ball, attacking and goal scoring principles, defending and small sided games.
The girls PDC are looking at running girls' galas and hosting matches so that all girls in the Harrogate area have the opportunity to be able to play football. Along with giving girls the experience of playing football the girls PDC has also allowed some of our Ladies Development team to get into coaching. Cassidy Lane and Emilia Kontominas are both starting out on their coaching pathway whilst being great role models for the PDC girls.
Meanwhile girls age 5-11 can check out local Wildcats sessions that take place at Rossett Sports Centre and Harrogate High School
Weetabix Wildcats is a non competitive football session for girls who want to give football a go for the very first time. Most importantly, Wildcats is all about having fun and meeting new friends.
Wildcats is aimed at girls aged 5 - 11 years old as an introduction to football, getting girls active, meeting new friends and boosting confidence within the girls.
We are pleased to announce the introduction of two Wildcats centres in Harrogate. The sessions are run at the following -
  • Monday 17:30 - 18:30 @ Rossett Sports Centre
  • Thursday 17:00 - 18:00 @ Harrogate High School
Since the introduction of Wildcats only a couple of weeks ago, over 80 girls have signed up to the programme. The sessions are a great way to give girls a stepping stone into football which is needed now more than ever since the Covid lockdowns. Girls and Womens football is one of the biggest growing sports within the country and this is an excellent scheme set up in conjunction with the FA to get girls playing football.
