Brendan Kiernan Awarded PFA Community Champion Award

7 May 2021

Brendan Kiernan has been awarded the PFA Community Champion 2020/21 for all of his work with Harrogate Town AFC Community Foundation throughout the season.

Brendan has been a fantastic role model this campaign and has gone above and beyond in working with the Foundation, supporting the community work across what has been a very difficult year for a lot of people due to the pandemic.

Since joining the Club Kiernan has been keen to learn more about Harrogate and has demonstrated a genuine interest in Community Programs, always volunteering and giving his time to support wherever he can.

From calling fans during lockdown, to joining us on our EFL #TeamTalk to discuss ways of improving mental health, Brendan has been fully committed and enthusiastic. In addition, he has gone out of his way to visit our new Community Pop-Up shop on several occasions unannounced.

On receiving the award, Kiernan said: "It is a real honour to receive the PFA Community Award for the club, especially during such a tough year for so many families. I am glad that I can help put a smile on peoples faces and bring the community together”.

Iain Service, Head of Community at Harrogate Town AFC Community Foundation stated: "I would like to extend my sincere thanks to Brendan for all that he does to support our community delivery.

"He has fully embraced all that we have asked him to be a part of, whether that be raising awareness of the Charity or recording messages for local school children. His impact has been recognised by a number of supporters who have wanted to pass on their thanks. This award shows that his efforts this year have been greatly appreciated”.

Professional Players Association (PFA) Community Champion 2020/21 Harrogate Town AFC

All members of the playing squad including staff members have given their time to Community projects, including but not limited to contacting fans during lockdown, recording messages of encouragement to those in the community that were in need – plus donating money for our '25 Days of Christmas' campaign last December.

“The PFA has been immensely proud of the outstanding efforts of players during a very difficult season and we feel they should be recognised for their support and involvement in the local community. The Award will hopefully raise awareness of the importance many of our members attach to their roles off the pitch and highlight their commitment to support those most in need during the crisis. We would like to offer our congratulations to this season's recipient of the 2020/21 PFA Community Champion Award.”  - John Hudson PFA – Director of Corporate Social Responsibility.
