Joe Cracknell pre Cheltenham - it’s been nice to come back from injury and feel a good part of the team again

7 May 2021

We've been chatting to Joe Cracknell about his Wembley appearance and clean sheet, his return to the team and how we're aiming to finish the campaign with three points…

Cracknell on playing at Wembley and keeping a clean sheet…

Yeah as a keeper it doesn't get much better than that. The opportunity to go out and play at Wembley and then
have a clean sheet was a nice touch at the end when the full time whistle went.

Before the game, the later kick-off meant there was a bit more waiting around the hotel. I remember thinking it felt like it took a while before I had my pre-match meal. Obviously the nerves start to build but once in the warm ups and in the groove of playing, everything settles down and I just tried to enjoy the occasion as much as I could.

We enjoyed the celebrations after. They're always ones to remember. It was a good night had by everyone I think and had a good day of rest afterwards.

On playing in the nine goal thriller against Cambridge…

It was completely different to Monday's game. Being 3-0 up after 20 minutes, I was thinking here we go, we've got a good lead here but then all of a sudden, it goes back to 3-2 and it ended up as a bit of a crazy game and I had a fair bit to do but I'm sure the fans enjoyed the game.

On his recent run in the side…

I've had a nice run of games towards the back end of the season so it's been nice to come back from injury and feel a good part of the team again.

On facing Cheltenham on Saturday…

That's the aim (three points and a clean sheet). We'll give it our best shot and it'll be another tough game, no doubt. Cheltenham will be trying to achieve the title from it but we've got to go there and make sure we finish well and end the season on a high.

On looking forward to the summer…

It'll be nice to put the feet up for a few weeks and take toll of what's happened in the past season. It's been a memorable one on personal level and for the team. It's been our first League Two season and it's going to be good to look back on what we've achieved.
