"I think we’re playing pretty well and can play better" - Weaver pre Scunthorpe

7 October 2021

Watch the Gaffer's pre-match interview, previewing Saturday's fixture with Scunthorpe United...

The Gaffer on Tuesday's win vs Newcastle U21s...

I thought everybody acquitted themselves really well and looked fit and hungry. The team shape was really good and it had to be as Newcastle can be quite slick with their passing but they didn't cause us too many problems because we were nice and narrow out of possession and then we moved the ball about very well. It was good right from the off, scoring after six minutes help.

On Danilo Orsi's performance...

He had just had a quiet spell in the game due to the circumstances but there was an air of inevitability that he was going to bury a chance. It's superb knowing he's primed and ready. He can probably think to himself that he's unlucky not to have started more games but I know that he's ready and able and got quality whenever we call upon him.

On whether last season's results against Scunthorpe are on the mind...

What's on our mind is current form and current feelings in the place, ensuring the energy levels are ready so we can go and have a good go on Saturday. Obviously at the back of the mind you're aware that they beat us well and truly last year and it stays with you. We want to do better than that and this weekend we have a chance to come out looking  a better team than we did last year.

Fitness updates on Power, Martin and Pattison...

We're hoping to assess them properly on the pitch tomorrow. They're doing some rehab work this morning and are making good progress.

Previewing Saturday's contest...

There are hardly ever any easy afternoons in League Two. I think we're playing pretty well and can play better than what we did last week but we still found a way to win which is great. We played well on Tuesday and we just have to keep the momentum moving forward. Scunthorpe have got very good players; a goal scorer in Ryan Loft who's come back in and he did some damage to us last year.

We'll pay every respect to how they play, they can knock it long when they want to and that was the message from the dugout last year quite a bit to get it in behind us.

They look to play as well so it's hard to call, I don't think they'll just drop off and let us play I think they'll be up for the battle in front of a big crowd on Saturday for us. Scunthorpe are bringing around 900 which is really exciting to fill the away end. The Town fans will be right behind us in their numbers this weekend.
