We've got to get back to being in control a lot more than we have been - Weaver pre Leyton Orient

18 February 2022

Watch the Gaffer's pre Leyton Orient interview here…

The Gaffer on making sure heads don't drop after giving away advantages in games…

We've just got to try and settle them down after the game. We've had a couple days off, then come into training and looked at the video analysis of the game from the other night. It's far from kamikaze football, it's just actually being overprotective. In more than a couple of games now, we've just dropped off a little bit too deep, hadn't had the numbers up front and even had the forwards dropping well within our own half. It's been getting the gloves up against the ropes when we didn't need to, really.

We've got to have more belief in that and in second halves of games, we've learned now that we've got to get back to being in control a lot more than we have been. Get on the ball and play and believe in what we're about.

On continuing to build…

It's so important to believe in what we're trying to build here and we've said for several weeks, it's a work in progress. There's some new lads here but also the seasoned pros in our changing room, they are responsible for settling the ship and just going, come on, we're OK.

We're creating so many chances, scoring so many chances and to score six goals in two away games, not many teams really do that to the places we've been. But admittedly, we need to tighten up a bit, everybody take responsibility and make sure that we get back to keeping it tight.

On Leyton Orient…

They've been a little bit inconsistent themselves in recent weeks but they've got some talented players determined to turn it around. It's a big club and they have a really experienced manager so we expect their preparation to be bang on. It's going to be a tough task but we're back at home and had four good results out of the previous five home games. We'll be looking to get five out of six now and get back on winning terms.

On the reverse fixture that saw us leave with three points and a clean sheet…

I think it was a very good performance that night. We got the balance right, pressed at the right times and it resulted in some good goals and even on the counterattack, we'll looked sharp. I think that's been a positive thing this season in that when we do keep it tight, even when we are a little bit deep, we can break at pace and hurt. But we're looking to keep taking steps forward.
