Huddersfield Town duo Austerfield and Diarra sign on loan

4 January 2022

We're delighted to announce the loan signings of Huddersfield Town duo Josh Austerfield and Brahima Diarra, who join until the end of the season.

Austerfield, who was born in Morley, plays in the middle of the park and has been part of the Terriers' set up since the age of seven, impressing throughout his time with the academy.

The 20 year-old has also featured for the Huddersfield first team, with the youngster making his professional debut in September 2020 against Rochdale in the EFL Cup, and then featuring in the Terriers' FA Cup tie against Plymouth at the start of 2021.

Short loan spells at Brighouse Town and Hyde United occurred in the back end of 2020 but the midfielder now makes the step up to League Two football.

Pacey attacking midfielder Diarra started his football career in France, playing for his local club Montrouge F.C. 92. The 18 year-old Frenchman joined Huddersfield Town in July 2019 and signed his first professional contract a year later.

Diarra made his senior debut for the Terriers in December 2020, when he came on as a substitute in the EFL Championship against AFC Bournemouth.

Here's what the Gaffer had to say on the double signing…

“Both Josh and Brahima have got a huge amount of potential and we're excited about giving them game time, which will be invaluable for them and us. We don't see them as just on the periphery players, we see them challenging the current starters and really enhancing our chances of doing well this season.

“They're both midfielders but both have different strengths. Brahima is an attacking midfielder and Josh is capable of playing as either an attacking midfielder or holding player. Josh is very tall and got great guile, while Brahima has got a low centre of gravity which makes him very skilful and dynamic on the half turn but he's very robust as well.

“They're both great options for us moving forwards.”

Josh will wear shirt number 19 and Brahima will wear 22.
