Lewis Richards joins for second loan spell

8 July 2022

We're delighted to announce that Wolverhampton Wanderers defender Lewis Richards has returned to Town for a second loan spell.

Richards first joined Town in January 2022 and made eight appearances before an injury in March cut short his stay at the EnviroVent Stadium.

Nonetheless, the versatile, left-footed defender quickly became well liked with Town supporters, with his ability to drive forward in possession adding another dimension to Simon Weaver's team.

The 20-year old has been with Wolves' set up for five years, having joined from Brentford's academy. Since then, the defender has featured for the Wanderers' U23s and U21s, and has also represented Ireland at U19s and U21 level.

Having progressed nicely through the Wolves' youth teams, Richards was promoted to the first team in the 2019/20 season and was then awarded a new contract in July 2020, after featuring in the match day squad for Europa League ties against both of Besiktas and Sevilla.

The Irish under 21 international was then regularly included in the Wolves matchday squad throughout the 2020/21 Premier League campaign.

Manager Simon Weaver on Richards' return…

“We're delighted that Lewis is re-joining us. Lewis is a talented player that will really benefit from being in a first team set up for a whole season.  He's strong, a good all-round defender and can drive forward well with the ball, so he fits the bill.”

The defender joins for the 22/23 season and will wear number 14.
