Town squad to take positives from previous Yorkshire Derby performance as Daly reveals FA Cup excitement

2 November 2022

Midfielder Matty Daly believes the Town squad will be looking to build on their previous performance against Bradford City as the Yorkshire Derby kicks off our FA Cup campaign.

Speaking ahead of the match, he explained:We put in a good performance in that game, we didn't get the result but the positives were there so we will be looking to take those positives in to Saturday and hopefully go and get a result.

Having scored three goals in the last three matches, Daly admits the goals have been bittersweet but believes the squad are on a positive path.

He explained: “I'm really enjoying my football here at the moment. I have managed to get a couple of goals in the last couple of weeks. That is something which I wanted to improve on in my game personally. However, when the results come it will feel even better.

“There have been positives from a lot of our performances this season. At Wimbledon we were good, there were parts of our game where we want to improve and we will look at that together as a team and try and impose that this weekend.

Having featured alongside Alex Pattison and Josh Falkingham in recent weeks, the 21-year-old believes the opportunity of regular football is aiding him to improve as a player.

He said: “When you have people around you who have a lot of experience is always a benefit. For me, they are always helping me whether that be in games or in training, they have high standards in everything they do.

“They are always encouraging me to go out and express myself and contribute to the attack but it's also about working hard defensively and it's good to play alongside them, working together as a team.”

In our last FA Cup campaign, the club made history in reaching the third round of the competition for the first time. With several new members of the squad looking to make their own mark on Town history, Daly revealed there is an excitement within the squad.

He said: “The lads are positive as we always are, everyone is really upbeat around the training ground and we are really looking forward to the match. Personally, I am really excited.”

“I've played in the FA Cup last season, it's a great competition and one which we will be looking to go as far as possible in.”
