Black History Month - Josh Coley shares his experiences

28 October 2022

Black History Month, which takes place from October 1 to 31, recognises the contribution and achievements of the black community around the world, and provides an opportunity for people to learn more about – and challenge – everyday racism and negative stereotypes.

This year Harrogate Town AFC have been busy delivering workshops and lessons within local primary schools.

A special feature video has been created featuring Town star Josh Coley to talk through his experiences.

Iain Service, Head of Foundation for Harrogate Town AFC Community Foundation explains;

“Black History Month provides us with a platform to celebrate and highlight the invaluable contribution that the black community has had on the success and history of those associated with the game we love.

"It also allows us to amplify our message to fans and the wider football community to play their part by challenging hate and discrimination, which has no place in sport or society.”

Although October has been earmarked as the Black History month and campaign, we want to stress that this is more than just a month - it is the club's intention to combine BHM initiatives more broadly across the season.
