'I can't wait to get going.' - Olaigbe ahead of Carlisle test 📰

31 January 2023

New recruit Kazeem Olaigbe has praised the influence which Town defender Kayne Ramsay had in convincing him to join the Town ranks.

The pair enjoyed a brief spell together in the Southampton academy set up and Olaigbe explained the Town right-back spoke highly of the dynamic within the squad.

“I spoke to Kayne about the club and what it is like. I asked him a couple of questions and he couldn't speak highly enough of the place which was great to hear.

“It's always good to have that bond with one of the lads at a club. All the lads have been great with me so far and I can't wait to get going.”

The Belgian U19 international believes his exposure to first-team football in the Town side can help him to develop as a player.

“I always want to improve as a player. For me, coming here I want to add more goals to my game and help the team climb the table with contributions in attack.

“I am a winger who likes to get on the ball, I try to make the most of 1 v 1 situations. I want to help the team in any way I can that might be goals or assists.”

With a potential debut in the offing this Saturday, against Carlisle, the 20-year-old admits he is looking forward to playing in front of the travelling support.

“I really like how the team sets up to play and when I spoke to the gaffer I knew this was the best place for me to come.

“He told me about the loan players who have been here before and I want to make the most of my opportunity here to get as many minutes as possible and show the fans what I can do.

“I have played a lot of football at Ross County and I feel sharp. If I am selected I will be ready to play come Saturday.”

Having featured at U19 and U17 level for the Belgian national side. The pacy-winger hopes his time in Yorkshire can help him to represent his country once more.

“Whenever you go and play with the national team you know it's going to be a tough test. You are playing against some big countries and good players so it's a fantastic opportunity to test myself.”

“Hopefully I can get a chance at U21 level in the future. I know that it's a big step up and to get that chance I need to prove myself.”
