Club Awarded Family Excellence Silver Status

23 May 2024

Harrogate Town have been awarded silver rating in the Family Excellence Award for the 2023/24 season.

This represents an improvement on the previous bronze level achieved last season, with Town now ranking sixth out of 24 in SkyBet League Two (previously 19th) and 33rd out of the 72 EFL clubs, up from 61st last season.

CEO Sarah Barry commented: “We are thrilled to have achieved the Silver Award accreditation for the EFL Family Excellence scheme having invested heavily towards improving our stadium facilities and focused consistently on delivering a more entertaining match day experience.  We’ve been independently rated across all aspects of the organisation and are elated to have been awarded the highest scores for our Stadium Facilities and Cleanliness, Refreshments and People which are all rated as “Excellent”. I’m most proud, but not surprised to learn that we’ve been rated as  “outstanding” and 10/10 for our Friendliness.

“Our mission is to continually improve and we are now striving for the Gold level award which the team are committed to reaching. We know how essential it is for us, as a growing relatively new League club, to attract more families and more supporters in general and to see supporters coming back more often which we are seeing with attendances increasing by 31% since the new stand was complete in November 2023.  To help us improve, we welcome all feedback which will always be considered for action to be taken where possible.

“For now, I’d like to sincerely thank and credit everyone associated with the club, our supporters, sponsors, staff, and volunteers for their fantastic contribution towards this result. It’s the combination of everyone involved who together, create a positive, friendly and welcoming place to visit. We love that we can put Harrogate on the map and represent our fantastic Town so positively on a national scale. We want to make our Town Proud!”

Clubs were rewarded with either Gold, Silver or Bronze status based on the experience they provide to assessing families, and testament to the success of the EFL’s Family Excellence Scheme, over one million junior supporters enjoyed a live matchday experience at an EFL game in the Sky Bet Championship, League One or League Two in 2023/24.

The EFL’s Family Excellence Scheme assesses the experience Clubs provide for match-going families through the use of family matchday assessors, covering a range of touchpoints across ticket purchase, matchday activations and experience, accessibility, facilities and family communications. These scheme recognises the continuous improvement and best practice that emerges across the League and rewards Clubs for their efforts in attracting and retaining young supporters.

EFL Chief Executive, Trevor Birch said: "Attendances across the EFL are at a modern day high and it’s really encouraging to see more than one million junior supporters attend an EFL match for the third season in a row, highlighting the great work being done by EFL Clubs to encourage young people through the turnstiles."
