Born in Sheffield, Oxley started his career at Rotherham United, before a move to then Premier League Hull materialised in 2008.

The keeper would feature for Walsall, Grimsby, Burton Albion and Oldham on loan before moving to Hibernian on an initial six-month loan in 2014. ‘The Ox’ then scored during his Scottish Championship debut when a long ball was misjudged by his opposite number in the Livingston goal.

Oxley moved back to England in 2016 and joined Southend United. In his second season at the club, won fans Player of the Season and Players' Player of the Season. He signed a new three-year deal in 2018 and was subsequently named captain of the Shrimpers.

After making 169 appearances for Southend, the six-foot-three shot stopper turned down a new deal with the club in 2021 and instead joined Town.
