Health and Wellbeing

Harrogate Town AFC Community Foundation are focused on improving the health and wellbeing of local residents.

We aim to achieve this by co-ordinating exciting and innovative projects, working alongside local partners. Inspiring young people, adults and families to be active.

Our current community based projects are as follows;

Harrogate Town AFC Walking Football Club

Walking Football at Harrogate Town has grown massively over the last few years. There has never been a better time to come and play at the CNG Stadium.

There are two sessions :-

The Harrogate Town AFC session will take place every Monday.

This is the official team of Harrogate Town AFC Community Foundation. There are over 45 members who represent the club in the Northern Premier League at 50’s and 60’ age categories. We also organise friendly tournaments and competitions to allow every member to represent Town.

If you have never played Walking Football before, it is a fantastic way to get back into the game that you love. Providing brilliant social opportunities and getting active each and every week.

Along with a growing number of playing opportunities, we hold regular social events and membership even includes your very own ‘name and numbered’ shirt!

Town Runners – Beginners Running Club

One of our passions is to get people active and increase the amount of time they spend enjoying physical activity.

The idea for running groups came from one of our supporters who has a keen interest in being active and improving peoples health and wellbeing.

Steve Pattison who’s son is vlogger Chief Brody has taken time to qualify as a Run Leader with British Athletics; he has the knowledge and enthusiasm to help all members.

We would love to involve supports, residents and the local community, participating in two social running groups that aim to;
  • Build confidence in running and being active
  • Assist towards a personal goal (such as 5k target, race for life or other running events)
  • Make friends and socialise
  • Enjoy being outdoors in the fresh air
  • De-stress and refresh yourself
Town to 5K (Walk – Jog – Run)

Aimed at those who are new to running or would like to build confidence. Following the couch to 5K running plans, the overall goal will be to continuously run for 5k and complete a Harrogate Park Run – having a laugh along the way!

Each run is geared towards our participants and we make sure everyone is comfortable and enjoys being part of our group.

Town to 5K takes place every Tuesday (term time) 5pm till 6pm, meeting outside the 1919 Bar at the CNG Stadium. The group is completely FREE and is a perfect way to pass time if you are at the stadium for the popular Player Development Centre.

Our beginners group has recently been featured on Stray FM – Harrogate’s own local radio station.

Town Runners

Running alone can be hard and sometimes you might lack the motivation to regularly get out!

Our Thursday group has been set up to welcome those who can run short to medium distances to run socially. Once again routes/programmes have been developed from our Run Leader Steve Pattison.

As the CNG Stadium is so close to the Stray it provides a perfect opportunity to run in the fresh air, in relaxing environment.
