Moorby signs professional terms

9 May 2024

Harrogate Town AFC are delighted to announce academy prospect James Moorby has today signed his first professional contract with the football club, subject to EFL approval.

The defender, who progressed through the club’s academy system, was part of the group which won the league title during the 22/23 season.

Manager Simon Weaver said: "We have watched James closely when he has been up training with the first-team group. He has shown the right attitude and desire to make a really good footballer.

"He is a wing-back who likes to get on the front foot. As a player he has a lot of good traits, he is athletic, he is very coachable and has a fantastic left foot.

"We have been in regular dialogue with both Rory McArdle and Richard Jones about his progress. Rory knows a good defender when he sees one and has fully praised James for his attitude and application."

After completing his two-year scholarship, Moorby becomes the sixth ever scholar to sign professional terms with the club.

Looking ahead to the future, Moorby said: “Signing a professional contract at the club where I completed my scholarship gives me a fantastic opportunity to kick-on.

“When I started my scholarship, this was always the aim, so it feels good to be sitting here having signed that contract.

“Now it’s about kicking on, I want to be as fit as I can going into pre-season. We will have a couple of matches then and hopefully I can play my part in those with as many minutes as possible.”

This contract will begin on July 1st 2024.
